The Boards
What types of boards does Bumsurfboards make?
Every Bum board is hand-shaped in Huntington Beach. The current lineup includes single-fin longboards designed for nose-riding, high-speed single-fin performance shapes, and custom hybrid designs. Each shape is built one at a time — no two are exactly alike.
How do I choose the right board for my surfing?
It depends on the waves you ride and how you ride them. A longer, fuller-nosed log thrives in small, rolling point breaks. A tighter-rockered single-fin rewards precise footwork on steeper faces. We recommend reaching out directly — a short conversation about your local break and your goals goes further than any size chart.
What materials go into a Bum board?
We use premium foam blanks, hand-selected for density and rocker profile before shaping begins. Glassing is done in-house using fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin, with a specialization in cut-lap techniques and complex pigment work.
How long does it take to shape a board?
A stock shape typically takes two to four weeks from blank to finished glass. Custom commissions can take four to six weeks depending on complexity and current volume. We don't rush. Every foil and rocker line is refined until it's right.
Custom Orders
Can I order a fully custom board?
Yes. Custom orders are at the core of what we do. You configure your board through the on-site configurator — model, length, glassing schedule, fin setup, color — and the shaper builds it to those exact specs.
What does the custom order process look like?
Choose a model and select your options in the configurator. The price updates live as you pick. When you're happy with the configuration, add to cart and check out. The order enters the production queue immediately after payment.
Can I cancel or modify a custom order?
Modifications are welcome in the first week of production. Once shaping is underway, changes may affect the timeline and cost. Custom orders are final sale — but we stand behind the craftsmanship completely. If there is a defect in the build, we will make it right.
Board Care
How do I care for my Bum board?
Rinse with fresh water after every session. Store in a cool, shaded spot — avoid leaving the board in a hot car or on hot sand for extended periods, as heat accelerates delamination. Use a padded bag for transport. Check for dings regularly; small cracks let water in and weaken the glass over time.
Do you do repairs?
Yes. We repair all boards, regardless of where they were made. Ding repair, delamination, fin box work, and full restorations. Most repairs are turned around in three to five days. Send photos to get an estimate before dropping off.
Still have questions?
Every board is a conversation. Reach out and we'll talk through what you need — no pressure, no sales pitch.
